8th FUOYE Convocation: VC Promises First Five Glass Storey Senate Building

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, FUOYE, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has promised to ensure the first glass storey Senate Building in the Institution is built and completed in its own time as the Vice Chancellor.

Professor Fasina stated the above while addressing journalists at the press conference heralding the activities for the 8th Convocation Ceremony of the University held at the Governing Council’s Senate Chamber on Monday.

According to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Fasina, he said, “one of his major plan for the year 2024 was to ensure that a new and befitting Senate Building is constructed for the University. I am determined to put in place about five to six glass storey Senate Building on the campus”. 

Also, Fasina listed his other targets in 2024 to include establishment of an Independent Power Plant (IPP), establishment of an electric car factory in the University and the inauguration of a Green Revolution Initiative among many other things.

Fasina while speaking further, listed his past achievements to include an increment in the Institution’s Internally Generated Revenue through the creation of more ventures and an increase in student’s enrolments, sustainability of the University through the use of strategic plans, construction of deep irrigation for wealth creation, establishment of the University’s College of Medicine / intake of first sets of students, ensuring efficiency in payment through the use of computerization, harnessing opportunities provided by the Institution’s Alumni Association, branding of the University, regular retreat and summit as well as International linkages among others.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Fasina while highlighting the activities for the 8th Convocation Ceremony of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, revealed that, “on Tuesday, 6th of February, 2024, there would be a free care services for Oye Ekiti community by 11:00am, commissioning of projects at Oye Campus such as faculty of law complex, faculty of arts lecture theatre, new medical students hostel, university staff school, centre for mathematical modeling, 500KVA power generating house, solar light project and Alumni building launching all between the hours of 2:00pm to 4:00pm. 

“On Wednesday, 7th of February, 2024, a free health care services for the Ikole Ekiti Campus by 11am, commissioning of projects at the Ikole Ekiti Campus by 12noon comprising of 32 rooms professional office building, new university library and the induction of engineering students by 2pm.

“By Thursday, 8th February, 2024, another free health care services for the Ayegbaju Ekiti Community by 11am, the University Founder’s Day Speech to be delivered by Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure and it will take place at the Institution’s Faculty of Science Hall by 2pm. Thereafter, a cocktail party and followed by a command performance by the TMA students by 3pm.

Also, “on Friday, 9th of February, 2024, a Jumat Service will hold at the University’s Mosque by 1pm, the Vice Chancellor’s award of excellence to deserving individuals and staff members as well as N50 billion endowment fund raising and meritorious awards at the Obafemi Awolowo Civic Centre, Fajuyi Ado Ekiti by 5pm”.

The Vice Chancellor added that on Saturday, 10th of February, 2024, the Institution’s Convocation Lecture to handled by Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede by 11am while the Convocation Ceremony / award of degrees will take place by 11:45am. For the honorary doctorate awardees category, the likes of Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, the Majority Leader of the Senate; Senator Solomon Adeola, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Finance and the Rt Honourable Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, the Chairman, House Committee on Navy.

The weeklong activities would however be rounded up on Sunday, 7th of February, 2024 with Thanksgiving Service at the University’s Chapel by 11am in the morning.
