Ekiti Lawmaker Rallies Grassroot Support For Oyebanji’s Re-Election

Lawmaker representing Ado Ekiti Constituency II in Ekiti State, Honourable Ayodeji Adegbite has commenced the grassroot mobilisation of voters for the second term re-election bid of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji ahead June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State.
Adding, he urged supporters to adopt house-to-house campaigns to drive voter turnout in support of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
Adegbite made the call during a community engagement tour across parts of his constituency, where he interacted with residents on the need for active participation in the electoral process.
He said, “As we approach the election, it is important that we intensify our grassroots engagement, especially through house-to-house campaigns, to mobilise our people to come out and vote.”
The lawmaker expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of the incumbent, citing performance in office and continuity in governance as key advantages.
“There is no doubt that Governor Oyebanji remains the clear favourite to win this election. His performance in office has been commendable, with visible strides in key sectors that directly impact the lives of our people,” he said.
Adegbite added that sustaining ongoing policies and projects would be critical to the state’s development trajectory.
“Continuity in governance provides a significant advantage, as it allows ongoing projects and policies to mature, ensuring sustained development rather than disruption,” he stated.
He further pointed to the support of former governors and political leaders in the state as a factor strengthening the governor’s position.
“The overwhelming backing from former governors and Ekiti leaders has significantly strengthened our position and weakened opposition parties that might have posed serious threats under different circumstances,” he said.
While commenting on federal alignment, Adegbite noted that emerging policy outcomes at the national level could benefit the state.
“The policies of Mr. President are beginning to yield tangible dividends, and Governor Oyebanji’s strong relationship with the Presidency places Ekiti in a strategic position to benefit even more from federal collaboration and support,” he added.
Despite expressing optimism, the lawmaker warned against voter complacency, noting that perceived electoral advantage could dampen turnout.
“It is precisely because of these advantages that there is a real risk of voter complacency. Many may feel the outcome is already decided and see no urgency in coming out to vote. That would be a mistake,” he cautioned.
He urged residents to view voting as both a right and a civic obligation.
“Voting is not just a right, but a civic duty. Failing to vote, or to encourage others to vote, would be unpatriotic and a disservice to the progress we have made,” Adegbite said.
The lawmaker also stressed the importance of demonstrating electoral strength through high turnout.
“Beyond just winning, we must aim to demonstrate our true voting strength. A strong turnout will send a powerful message about the political unity and engagement of Ekiti people and could strengthen our case for greater political consideration, including more wards and constituencies in the future,” he noted.
Adegbite concluded by urging sustained engagement with voters across communities and further emphasised that the governor’s popularity must be reflected in voter turnout.
“Victory is not just about popularity; it is about participation. We must reach every household, speak to every voter, and ensure that on election day, our people come out in their numbers to affirm their support,” he said.
“The governor’s accessibility and acceptance will only be truly reflected by the turnout at the polls. Every vote will count,” he added.
