The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has appealed to the newly elected local government Chairmen and Councillors in Osun State, to avoid resuming at their various local government Secretariats to prevent further clashes that can lead to more loss of lives pending when all issues would be resolved through the judiciary. 

He also accused the Police authorities of aiding the All Progressives Congress, APC’s forceful take – over of the local government Secretariats across the State. 

The Governor made the call on Sunday afternoon at the Government House ground in Osogbo shortly after swearing – in the newly 30 local government Chairmen and 332 councillors elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP,  during the last Saturday local government election across the State. 

Adding, Governor Adeleke urged the new local government officials to be patient and exercise restraints to enable the State to continue to enjoy the peace it deserves.

He expressed satisfaction that his party, the People’s Democratic Party is on the side of the law. 

He commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission for complying with all the extant rules and guidelines guiding the conduct of the local government election which was issued a year ago shortly after the Commission was constituted and inaugurated. 

He charged the newly elected local government officials to deliver a good governance to the people who elected them to head their various local government council areas in the State and develop a plan of action in line with the manifesto of the People’s Democratic Party. 

Pointing out, Governor Adeleke added, that, “as his government is transforming the State for the better, I called on you to be agent of change, community developer and a deliverer of the dividends of democracy to the good people of Osun State. 

“He thanked the Osun State people for their support for his administration. Osun people no doubt has demonstrated courage and passion to exercise their voting rights on the election day, by massively supporting the PDP in the State despite the constraints they encountered”.

He promised that people’s welfare will continue to be the watchword of his government. 

The Governor also used the opportunity to commend and thanked the various Security agencies in the State for making the election a reality. 

Also, he also acknowledged the contributions of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and thanked him for rejecting the efforts of certain personalities whose intention and plan was to throw the State into unnecessary crises.

He also assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of his administration’s commitment in the State to the adherence of the rule of law and the constitutional provisions.

He however stressed the need for the new Chairmen and Councillors to stay away from the Councils Secretariats across the State to avoid any clash with those Police authorities aiding the APC to forcefully occupy it.

“An Osun State High Court has affirmed the vacancies for both the Chairmen and Councillors positions in the State before the election held on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025. We will rely on the judiciary to ensure a peaceful remover of those illegally occupying the local government Secretariats. Please, please be patient and always abide by the rule of law. It is on this note that, I, Senator Asiwaju Dr Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State hereby effect the swearing – in of elected local government Chairmen and Councillors across Osun State”, he submitted.

Present at the venue of the swearing – in includes the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, his Bauchi State counterpart, Governor Bala Mohammed who also doubled as the Chairman of the PDP’s Governor’s Forum in the Country. 

Also present was the former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; two Senators representing Osun State at the National Assembly in Abuja, Akogun Lere Oyewumi for Osun West and Olabiyi Fadeyi for Osun Central; the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt Adewale Olumide Egbedun and the former Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives in Abuja, Rt Honourable Yusuf Lasun among many others.
