30th Convocation: EKSU Chancellor, Olowolafe Counsels New Graduants To Explore Solutions To World Problems

The Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, has counselled new graduants to join intellectuals to explore solutions to the problems facing the world at the 30th Convocation Ceremony of the Institution held on Saturday instead of dissipating energy and wasting resources on show off.
Olowolafe gave the charge during his address at the university’s 30th Convocation Ceremony held in Ado-Ekiti, where he advised members of the graduating class of 2026 to apply their education in tackling societal problems and venturing beyond familiar fields.
Addressing the graduates, the Chancellor stressed that modern challenges require bold thinking and the willingness to explore unfamiliar territories, adding that the real test of education lies not in obtaining academic qualifications but in how graduates apply their knowledge to transform society.
He urged the graduating students to demonstrate courage, creativity and determination in addressing global and national challenges, emphasizing that education should equip them to become solution-providers in an increasingly complex world.
His words, “My charge to you is simple: do not let your certificate become a decoration. The world’s most pressing problems do not obey faculty boundaries and they do not ask what grade you graduated with.
“They ask something harder: are you brave enough to cross into unfamiliar territory? Are you willing to do what is necessary when no one around you understands?
“The question is not whether you have been educated yes, you have. The question is what will you do with it?”
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Joseph Babatola hailed the Governor of the state, Biodun Oyebanji for the confidence reposed in him, to oversee the affairs of the citadel of learning.
He urged the students to be good ambassadors of the Institution, saying their character and attitude will speak volumes where other methods thrive to survive.
Recall that the Institution graduated 10,959 students in her 30th convocation where 284 students completed diploma programmes with 11 graduating with distinction, 162 with upper credit and 111 with lower credit.
For the bachelor’s degree category, 10,125 students were awarded first degrees, including 82 with first class honours, 2,794 with second class upper division, 6,020 with Second class lower division, 1,217 with third class while 12 students obtained pass degrees.
At the postgraduate level, the university awarded 550 higher degrees, comprising 155 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 270 Master’s degrees and 125 Postgraduate Diplomas.
