PCRC National Chairman Charges New Osun Executives to Prioritize Safe School Initiative

The National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, Asiwaju Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, has charged the newly elected executives of the Osun State Command to prioritize the Safe School Initiative.

Olaniyan gave the charge at the inauguration of the new executive held on Tuesday at the Osun State Police Command Headquarters, Osogbo.

He said the Safe School project remains a top priority of the Committee, disclosing that customized shirts, caps and bags will be provided for every member who registers for the initiative. He added that foreign partners have indicated interest in supporting the project with workshops and training.

The National Chairman commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, for his support for the PCRC and urged the new executives and members in the state to work in unity with the new Chairman to move the Command forward. He also called for massive mobilization of new members into the PCRC and the Safe School Initiative in the state.

The election, which produced Comrade Okekunle Sola, JP, as State Chairman, was conducted under the supervision of the National Chairman of the PCRC in the Country, Asiwaju Mogaji Olaniyan Ibraheem. 

A total of 86 votes were cast. All other Executive members were elected unopposed. 

In his acceptance speech, Okekunle thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in him, describing his victory as a collective responsibility.

“Today, there are no winners or losers. The only winner is the Police Community Relations Committee, Osun State Command,” he said.

He pledged to run an administration anchored on transparency, accountability, discipline, teamwork and strict compliance with the PCRC Constitution and directives of the National Headquarters.

Okekunle unveiled a 14-point agenda aimed at making Osun the most vibrant and impactful PCRC Command in the South-West. The agenda includes unity and reconciliation, strengthening of the Safe School Initiative, youth and women development, grassroots community engagement, massive public awareness, training and capacity building, membership expansion, welfare, financial prudence, sustainable fundraising, digital transformation and stronger partnership with the Nigeria Police Force.

On the Safe School Initiative, he disclosed that coordinators would be appointed from the state level down to Area Commands and Divisional levels to ensure the project reaches every part of the state.

“PCRC has evolved beyond its old structure to now include youth and women wings as well as the Safe School Initiative. PCRC now serves as a vehicle for community policing. The police cannot do it alone. We must reach out to traditional rulers, religious leaders, schools and all stakeholders to preach the gospel of PCRC to the grassroots,” he said.

In his remarks, the outgoing Caretaker Chairman, Alhaji Badmos Omoniyi, said his committee assumed office on June 2, 2026, after the tenure of the previous administration lapsed. He said the Command was in a state of stagnation at the time, with poor organisation and low internally generated revenue, but that his committee was able to restore stability and progress.

He advised the incoming executives to build on the foundation laid by the National Chairman and to redouble efforts in awareness creation, membership drive and financial mobilization.

Also speaking, the Chairperson of Ido-Osun Division and Women Wing Coordinator for Osun State, Princess Adenike Akinbote, decried low participation of women in the PCRC. She lamented that men were not encouraging women and that the 35 percent affirmative action provided for in the national constitution was not being reflected.

She called on divisional leaders to include at least one woman among the three delegates from each division and urged women not to see themselves as second-class citizens.

“We are citizens of Nigeria and members of this organization. Women must come out boldly to contribute to PCRC,” she said.
