This was reinstated by the NLC Chairman, Ekiti State chapter, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde during the September Congress edition of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council.

He said the Labour Union, while having meeting with the National Headquarters earlier in the week resolved not to back off until the federal government grant their request by increasing the minimum wage of workers to at least N100,000 so as to cushion the effects of subsidy removal.

He advised members of the Union to stock their homes with foodstuffs and other needs as the strike might be longer than expected.

He also implored all members of the Union to abide by the directives of the Union by staying at home or be ready to face disciplinary actions if found guilty of disobedience.

The NLC Chairman also slammed President Bola Tinubu for removing the fuel subsidy without consulting stakeholders so as to devise means to make life better for the citizenry.

In his words, “After the independence on Monday, every workers should stay home. This is not partisan, it has nothing to do with religion or regions.

“If fuel should be jerked up, something urgent should be done about that so that salary will be able to buy necessities.

“If nothing is done before Tuesday, it’s going to be indefinite and total. We are all in it together.

“There won’t be any form of working activities. If any Union is going short of the national order, the leadership will he held responsible.

“It’s abnormal for President Tinubu to remove subsidy without consulting the stakeholders. More than 50% of Nigerians are suffering, begging and still, the federal government has gained from the removal of fuel subsidy but they failed to share it.” He added.

Also, the NUJ in their resolution expressed readiness to give total support to the directives of the NLC.
