Ogun Police Apprehends Two Suspects, Recover Locally Made Pistol, Cartridge, Mask

The Ogun State Police Command courtesy of the Operatives of the Quick Response Squad, QRS, have arrested two suspects, a father and his teenage son for unlawful possession of a locally made pistol, cartridge and mask.
In a press release made public on Monday morning, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi from Eleweran, identified the suspects as Joseph Kehinde, a male and aged 38, and John Joseph, also a male, aged 13 and arrested along the Shagamu/Ogijo road axis.
DSP Babaseyi added that, “on Sunday, 5th April 2026, at about 1100hrs, the operatives, while on stop-and-search duty at the Lafarge area along Shagamu/Ogijo road, intercepted a tricycle conveying the younger suspect. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and a mask, the ownership of which he could not satisfactorily explain. The suspect, however, claimed that the firearm belonged to his father.
“Following this disclosure, operatives intensified efforts, leading to the arrest of the father, Joseph Kehinde. Both suspects, along with the recovered exhibits, have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation.
DSP Babaseyi assured that proper investigation ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the case, promising that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, however commended the vigilance and professionalism of the operatives.
He reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal possession of firearms and other criminal activities, assuring the residents of sustained efforts to ensure safety and security across the State.
He further urges members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the Police.
