S’West PDP Knocks Oyebanji, Describes Caucus Meeting as Gathering of Spent Politicians

The Southwest chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the state caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Iyin Ekiti on Friday, where leaders of the ruling party were said to have endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term. The PDP described the meeting as a “gathering of spent politicians.”

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Chief Sanya Atofarati, the party expressed disappointment at the assembly of APC leaders, whom he accused of being more interested in selfish gains than addressing the deteriorating economic situation in the state.

The PDP questioned why a governor who has allegedly failed the people and reneged on his electioneering promises would have the audacity to begin reelection campaigns, having “achieved almost nothing” in over two years at the helm.

Atofarati said, “It is an understatement to say Governor Oyebanji has failed Ekiti people in all areas of governance. This is a governor who has not commissioned any physical project since the inception of his administration.

“Most public schools in Ekiti are currently in a state of disrepair. The majority of roads are impassable, and insecurity is on the rise. Instead of focusing on the welfare of the people, Oyebanji has reduced democracy to what I call ‘photo-cracy.’ He has plunged the state into unsustainable debt through several loan bonds without executing any meaningful project.”

He added, “If an election were to be conducted today, Oyebanji would come a distant fourth in a free, fair, and credible poll. In a sane society, the likes of Fayemi would be facing prosecution. It was Fayemi who commissioned the uncompleted airport project, which remains abandoned despite over N21 billion being spent. Only a wicked Ekiti person would agitate for Oyebanji’s reelection.”

Meanwhile, in an earlier statement sent to newsmen on Saturday, 19th of April, 2025 by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Yinka Oyebode to the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, he described the unanimous endorsement of Governor Oyebanji for a second in term office as a result of his exemplary leadership qualities and impactful policies as reason for the endorsement.

Oyebode added that, the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji also earned the endorsement of the Ekiti APC State Caucus due to his remarkable developmental strides.

The Governor’s Media also maintained that no town in the state has been left out of the various government’s interventions which include infrastructural development, rural electrification, healthcare improvement, Agricultural Revolution and youth empowerment among others.
