Ex-NUC Boss, Okebukola Counsels University Staffs In Nigeria To Adopt Variety Of Teaching Techniques

Academic Staff of various higher Institutions in Nigeria have been urged to make use of variety of Teaching techniques to promote easy understanding among students. 

A former Executive Secretary, Nigeria Universities Commission, NUC, Professor Peter Okebukola gave the advice while delivering a keynote lecture at a capacity development for academic staff of Afe Babalola University, held in Ado Ekiti on Monday.

Professor Okebukola explained that it became imperative for Lecturers to study the learning capability of their students in order to know the kind of teaching approach they could employ which could ensure better understanding. 

The former NUC boss also stressed the need for researchers and writers to cite the publications of Nigerians and Africans whenever they are working on academic papers, rather than always referring to Westerners.

The Founder of ABUAD, Aare Afe Babalola listed some characteristics of a good lecturer to include having quality education, taking teaching as a vocation and ability to arouse the interest of students, among others. 

Aare Babalola said the university was established to lead quality and functional education, hence the Academic Staff must be trained periodically on modern teaching methodology.

The legal luminary appealed to the federal government to do everything possible to end the lingering ASUU strike in the interest of the students. 

Earlier in her welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of ABUAD, Professor Smaranda Olarinde said the programme was organized to improve the capacity of the academic staff to remain relevant in innovative method of teaching in higher institutions.
