Ekiti Governor Wants Widows Of Fallen Heroes Not To Be Abandoned

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has emphasized the need for the families and members of the public in general not to abandon the a of the fallen heroes in the society.

Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji who was represented by his Deputy Governor, Chief Mrs Monisade Afuye stated the above while fielding questions from newsmen at the end of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day 2024 held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavillon in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital on Monday. 

Afuye in her response during an interview with her, appreciated God for the life of his boss, the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and the whole people of the State at large. 

In her words, she said, “what we are doing today is just to show our gratitude to our fallen heroes who have fought for us. We don’t need to forget them, that is the significance of this celebration. I pray that their soul rest in perfect peace.

She added, and urged the people that are still living to continue to pray that God will give them good health to eat the fruit of their labour.

She advised the members of the public who has the widows of the fallen heroes living around them in the State not to leave them alone but reached out to them regularly, accommodate them and take good care of them. 

She also used the opportunity to pray for them to witness more of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, to enable all continue to celebrate together.

Also, speaking to newsmen in an interview, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana retired, described the Armed Forces as the only entity that has hold Nigeria together till date, revealing that the fallen heroes are the ones who have remained uncompromised, after spending their lifetime to serve the Country, leading to death for many of them, while some who are still alive are no longer in good condition of living.

He commended the Ekiti State Government under the leadership of the Governor of the State who approved the yearly celebrations for the fallen heroes to make their families and relatives to be happy.

In his own remarks, the Chairman of the Legion in Ekiti State, Colonel Abdurasaq Atoki (Rtd), commended the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his attention for the members of the Legion in the State. 

He hailed the fallen heroes in the armed forces for their past efforts when they are alive in struggling day and night to keep the Country as one.

He used the opportunity to appeal to the Governor to consider to do more for the members of the Legion in Ekiti State who have fought gallantly to unite the entire Country together as one. 

He also reminded the Governor on his promise to help the Ekiti State Legion to rehabilitate his existing office and equiped it up to date the office gadgets to make their Secretariat more functional.  

The programme performed by a detachment of men and officers of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Ondo State, featured mounting of a Guard of Honour, Gun Volley and Laying of Wreaths to respect and honour the fallen heroes for their immeasurable services to nationhood.

Present at the occasion were: Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Adeoye Aribasoye, Secretary to the State Government, Dr Habitat Adubiaro, Head of Service, Engr. Sunday Akomolafe, Deputy  Commandant, 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Brig. Gen. J. N. Garba , Commissioner of Police, Mr.  Dare Ogundare and other Security Chiefs.

The roll call of attendees included: The Chairman of  Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Ayorinde Ilori Faboro, Local Government Chairmen, representative of Ewi of Ado Ekiti, among others.
